Executive Director, Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC)
Marina Roelofs has served as the University of Michigan's director for Architecture, Engineering and Construction since 2000. The department is responsible for the implementation of all design and construction activities at the university, and includes the University Architect's Office, the University Planner's Office, and an in-house design and engineering group. Roelofs participates in capital planning for all of the U-M campuses. The AEC team consists of approximately 200 architects, engineers, construction professionals, and support staff.
Roelofs' wide-ranging experience in the construction industry spans from procurement to engineering and construction management to facilities operations, including legal and contractual issues. Prior to coming to U-M, she was the assistant vice president for facilities at the University of Toledo, where she was responsible for directing and managing the university capital program, the facilities operations, and maintenance activities.
Roelofs' career began thirty years ago in the construction industry at General Motors, Argonaut-AEC and advanced with worldwide construction purchasing. In her 15 years at GM, she managed numerous projects at the GM Proving Ground, Packard Electric, Argonaut Realty, and other GM divisions.
Roelofs holds a bachelor of science degree in construction engineering from Lawrence Technological University, a master of science degree in civil engineering from Wayne State University, and a juris doctorate degree from the Detroit College of Law.
