Burton Memorial Tower Facade and Bell Tower Repairs
Burton Memorial Tower was constructed in 1936 and houses classrooms and offices for the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, the University Musical Society, and the Charles Baird Carillon. In the summer of 2008 emergency repairs to cracking and falling limestone from the tower's facade were made, and a fall 2008 study of the condition of the walls found several areas that needed further repair, including to the steel framework that supports the carillon bells. The Department of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) is now ready to move forward with a project to repair the identified problem areas in the building's stonework, replace metal flashing, and repairs to the metal framework supporting the carillon.
